Can I thaw and refreeze?

Bf and I bought some rolls of Italian sausage. We usually cut it before putting it in the freezer because we do not use a whole roll in one sitting but we forgot this last time we went to the grocery. Tonight we plan on eating some of it would it be ok to partially thaw the whole roll enough to cut it and place the other half back in the freezer?
